One Parson's Opinion
LENT
We have already entered the Lenten Season of the Church year, and move very quickly to Easter. This is a time to pause in this fast paced world of ours and remember just what our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ went through for us. We need again to be reminded of the “vicarious atonement” -- that substitute payment which Christ made for us and for our sins. “The wages of sin is death!” And Christ paid those wages. He died that we might have life and life eternal. And it is His resurrection at Easter which assures us of our own resurrection to new life on the last day.
Our theme for Lent this year is “We Preach Christ Crucified.” The texts come from the Epistles and what the Apostles preached concerning Christ’s death and resurrection, and what it meant for the early Christians and for us. We will review the love that God has shown to sinful mankind through the life, the death, and the resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In Christ, God the Father has indeed fulfilled and still fulfills his promises of old.
Each member of our congregation needs to make plans to sit down with this Christian family of Zion at each of the Lenten Worship Services. We need to take time to ponder the depth and the richness of God’s love and grace. We need to see again what Christ suffered and endured that we might be called the Children of God. In so doing, we will be fully prepared to rejoice greatly at His resurrection on Easter Morning, April 4. Take time to watch and to pray.
Again this year, we have the 12:00 noon services and the 7:30 services each Wednesday. There is an evening meal in the Family Center at 6:00 for all who want to eat here before the services. And the Mid-week Bible Study runs from 6:30 to 7:15.
